Suspicions

From earlier on this year we had our suspicions that something wasn't right with Taylor's hearing. She was not responding as Caitlyn had to noise, us calling her or songs. We did wonder whether she was just 'choosing' not to respond as sometimes she would appear to react to things and other times not.

We took her to the Doctor around mid March who did a Tymp ** (Tympanometry) test which came out completely flat in both ears. The Doctor suspected Glue ear and told us that the protocol for this was to wait 6 weeks, come back for a further test and if that was still flat we would need to come back another two times (after 6 week periods) before we would be referred to the ENT (Ear Nose & Throat) department at the hospital.

This didn't sit well with us as we were worried about Taylor's lack of development if her hearing wasn't seen to until potentially 3 months time! So rather than rely on the public system, we made an appointment to see a ENT Specialist.

** Tympanometry is an examination used to test the condition of the middle ear and mobility of the eardrum (tympanic membrane) and the conduction bones by creating variations of air pressure in the ear canal. (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tympanometry)
